Newborn Screening
New Jersey Newborn Bloodspot Screening Program
The New Jersey Newborn Bloodspot Screening Program helps protect the health of babies by checking for rare but serious conditions that may not be visible at birth. The program screens every newborn for 63 disorders within 48 hours of birth. A small blood sample is collected from the baby's heel to test for conditions that, if left untreated, could lead to serious health issues. Early detection through this screening allows for prompt medical attention and can prevent lifelong disabilities. This program is provided by the New Jersey Department of Health and is an important part of giving babies the best start in life.

New Jersey Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program
New Jersey's Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Program ensures that all newborns are screened for hearing loss shortly after birth. The screening is quick, painless, and typically completed before the baby leaves the hospital. Early identification of hearing loss is crucial for timely interventions, supporting language development and overall communication skills.
