Vaccinations
Vaccines during pregnancy protect both the mother and the baby by passing immunity to the infant. Washington state encourages immunization to reduce risks of serious illness for both mothers and their children.
Vaccinations for Pregnant Women
Influenza (Flu) Vaccine: Safe at any stage of pregnancy, it protects against seasonal influenza, which can be more severe during pregnancy.
Tdap Vaccine: Protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). It is recommended between 27 and 36 weeks of pregnancy to help protect newborns from pertussis.
COVID-19 Vaccine: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) recommend COVID-19 vaccination for pregnant and breastfeeding women to reduce the risk of severe disease.
Vaccinations for Children
Routine childhood immunizations protect against many serious diseases. Key vaccines include:
Hepatitis B: (First dose at birth, second at 1–2 months, third at 6–18 months).
DTaP, Polio, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), and Varicella (chickenpox)
Administered through scheduled series during infancy and early childhood.
