Newborn Screening
North Dakota Newborn Screening Programs
North Dakota's Newborn Blood Spot Screening Program tests infants for 55 genetic, metabolic, and endocrine disorders. A small blood sample is usually taken from the baby's heel within 24–48 hours after birth and sent to the State Hygienic Laboratory for analysis. Early detection through this screening allows for prompt medical intervention, which can prevent serious health issues. This program is provided by the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services.

Families can access follow-up care and resources through the state's Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) Program.
