Baby-Friendly Hospitals

Baby-Friendly Hospitals support moms and babies by making breastfeeding easier and encouraging bonding right from birth. These hospitals follow special guidelines to help moms start breastfeeding, provide lactation support, and promote skin-to-skin contact to give babies the best start in life.

Hospitals earn this designation through the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) by meeting standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF.
California is home to several hospitals that have earned the "Baby-Friendly" designation, reflecting their commitment to promoting and supporting breastfeeding and mother-baby bonding. Click here to learn more about baby-friendly hospitals in California
