Newborn Screening

Wyoming Newborn Screening Program
The Wyoming Newborn Screening Program helps protect the health of babies by screening for rare but serious medical conditions shortly after birth. A few drops of blood are collected from a baby’s heel and tested for dozens of treatable disorders that, if detected early, can prevent serious health problems or developmental delays. This life-saving test is quick, simple, and typically done within 24–48 hours after birth.
The program is managed by the Wyoming Department of Health, Public Health Division, and ensures all infants receive timely screening and access to follow-up care.

Wyoming Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program
The Wyoming Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program ensures that all babies are screened for hearing loss shortly after birth using safe, non-invasive methods. Early identification of hearing issues allows families to access interventions—such as hearing aids, speech therapy, or sign language supportto promote language, social, and cognitive development.
The program is part of the state’s Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) initiative, which connects families with diagnostic services, early intervention programs, and audiologists.
