Texas Newborn Bloodspot Screening Program
The Texas Newborn Screening Program aims to protect the health of babies by testing for over 50 rare but serious conditions that may not be apparent at birth. A small blood sample is collected from a newborn's heel shortly after birth and again at one to two weeks of age. This early detection allows for prompt intervention, significantly improving health outcomes for affected infants. Learn More

Early detection facilitates timely interventions, such as hearing aids or therapy, supporting healthy language and communication development. The program provides guidance and oversight on screening, tracking, and intervention in accordance with the Texas Health and Safety Code, Chapter 47.

These programs are integral to ensuring that newborns in Texas receive the necessary screenings and interventions for a healthy start in life.
