Doula support

A doula is a trained, non-medical support person who helps you before, during and after birth with comfort, information and advocacy. Some doulas focus on birth, others on the weeks after the baby arrives.

Who it's for: Anyone who wants continuous, personal support. Many community programs offer free or low-cost doulas, and some state Medicaid programs now pay for doula care.

Common questions

Does a doula replace my doctor or midwife?

No. A doula doesn't give medical care. They support you alongside your medical team.

Will the hospital let my doula in?

Most hospitals welcome doulas, but policies vary. Ask the hospital ahead of time.

How current is this information?

Each listing shows where its information came from and, where we have it, the date a researcher last checked it. Details change, so call before you go. If something looks wrong, use "Tell us" on the listing.

Why do I have to enter a ZIP code?

So we can show the organizations in your county rather than a list of everything everywhere. It also keeps listings from being harvested in bulk.
